A durable coating to prevent stress corrosion effects on the surface strength of annealed glass

Abstract The durability of an innovative polymeric coating recently developed by the authors to prevent stress corrosion in annealed glass is herein examined. coating, having functional graded properties through thickness, optimised provide a very good adhesion with and excellent hydrophobic behavior on side exposed environment, thus creating barrier humidity, which triggering agent for corrosion. Three scenarios are analysed terms ageing: ( i ) cyclic loading, accomplished subjecting coated samples repetitive loading; ii natural weathering, performed exposing atmospheric agents; iii artificial carried out specimens fluorescent UV lamps, heat water. assessed indirectly, base its residual effectiveness preventing corrosion, comparing bending strength, obtained coaxial double ring test, aged that un-coated freshly specimens. results prove proposed formulation almost insensitive maintains performance case whereas slightly more sensitive weathering.
